Prawn Tikka Masala

Prawn tikka masala is a flavorful dish with origins in India. The dish typically consists of marinated prawns that are grilled/sautéd and then cooked in a creamy tomato-based sauce. The marinade is made from a blend of spices such as smoked paprika, ginger, garlic and lime, which infuses the prawns with a rich and flavorful taste. The sauce is made by simmering tomatoes, onions, yogurt and cream, which creates a savory and satisfying base. The final result is a delicious and hearty meal that can be enjoyed with rice or naan bread.

  2. Melt butter in a large skillet. Add the prawns and cook, stirring occasionally, just until the prawns begin to turn opaque and soften up slightly, 4-5 minutes. Watch carefully as prawns can overcook very quickly. Transfer to a plate and set aside.

  3. In the same skillet, heat the coconut oil over medium heat. Add in the cumin seeds, turmeric, and garam masala. Cook until the spice. Cook until the spices become fragrant, approximately 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to burn the spices.

  4. Add the onions to the spice mixture and cook until the onions develop a bit of color, 4-5 minutes.

  5. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and season to taste with salt and pepper.

  7. Reduce the heat to low. Add in the yogurt and heavy cream. Cook gently for 4-5 minutes, then add in the prawns and any accumulated juices and continue cooking just until the prawns are heated through.

  8. Serve over cooked basmati rice and garnish with fresh cilantro. Enjoy!
